May Happenings

Press Conference for Riverside Regional Jail

5/20/2024

The Riverside Regional Jail has faced significant challenges, including high death rates and scandals, over the years. In 2022

alone, it recorded the highest number of  inmate deaths in the state. Placed on probation in 2019, and facing closure

recommendations in 2021, the jail's troubles have persisted. Following the departure of its Superintendent, Delegate Coyner and

Senator Aird are advocating for the jail board to prioritize hiring a seasoned leader with a track record of excellence to address these ongoing issues.

Goodwill Academy Ribbon-Cutting

5/23/2024

The Goodwill Academy offers a comprehensive curriculum covering a wide range of areas, with instructors being proven

managers in our own operations.

The Academy provides unparalleled opportunities for students to put their training into practice, with over 3 million

unique face-to-face encounters with customers and donors every year. In addition to our mission, we are proud to be a

sustainable company that diverts 30 million pounds of material from local landfills annually and repurposes used goods in the most environmentally friendly way possible.

New Bond Rating for RVA

5/23/2024

Fitch Ratings, one of the three National Credit Rating Agencies, bestowed upon the City its highest possible rating of AAA. This

designation is grounded in the City's robust financial health, strong economic profile, and well-managed operations. Richmond's

attainment of this AAA rating reflects its financial resilience and ample reserves, affirming the city's stability and vigor. Such a

rating serves as a testament to our commitment to sound fiscal management and prudent governance.

The AAA rating not only signifies our financial prowess but also enables the City to access borrowing at the most favorable

interest rates attainable. This, in turn, translates into substantial savings amounting to millions of dollars for our residents. These savings are then allocated towards projects aimed at enhancing our community's quality of life.

Richmond Delegation Town Hall

5/28/2024

Our Town Hall was marked with an excellent turnout with wonderful participants prepared with intuitive questions for the

panel. This was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on our past legislative session with the Richmond delegation!

The engagement and willingness to share thoughts and concerns by our constituents demonstrates a deep commitment to our

community's well-being. It's through open dialogue and collaboration that we can work together to address the challenges and

opportunities facing our city.

Thank you so much to those who attended, your insights and perspectives are incredibly valuable as we continue to strive for

progress and positive change. Your presence not only enriched our discussion but also strengthened the bond that unites us as neighbors and citizens.
