An Update from Delegate Michael Jones

This is a subtitle for your new post

It's Budget Week

My top two budget amendments and several other Richmond area initiatives made it into the House approved budget. $500,000 will go to the creation and support of the Dwight C. Jones Center for Civic Engagement at Virginia Union University and $250,000 will go to the Help Me Help You Foundation, an organization giving returning citizens the support they need for a brighter future.

My Bills are Making Their Way Through the Senate.

Three of my bills have made their way through the Senate and are headed to the Governor's desk to be signed into law:
HB246 requires that itemized statements of court fines and fees be provided to defendants
HB332 simplifies the process for termination of a trust less than $100K
HB336 protects beneficiaries entitled to estates and trusts on transfer of death deeds.

HB22, which bans Auto-Sears, and HB333, which sets a timeline for filling vacancies on the Council on Environmental Justice, were both referred to the Senate Finance and Appropriations. I expect 3 more of my bills to make their way through the Senate next week.

Auto-Sears Legislation Moving Forward

Going into Crossover, HB22, which bans Auto-sears, was similar to Senator Russet Perry’s SB210. I worked with Senator Perry to develop new language to the bill that would make the ban on auto-sears easier to prosecute. Sen. Perry and I introduced the Amendment to our respective bills to make our legislation stronger. It is great to work with my colleagues in the Senate to keep Virginia's streets safer.

Delegate Hayes and I add to a tower of Legos

Building Legos

It was a pleasure to visit with representatives of Lego and learn about their partnerships with local schools. Lego is also building a new manufacturing facility in Chesterfield County which would bring over 1,700 new jobs to the area.
