Delegate Jones advanced one of only two gun bills that the Governor did not veto during the 2024 legislative session. This bill bans the manufacture, importation, sale, offer to sell, possession, transfer, or transportation of an auto sear. An auto sear is defined as a device, other than a trigger activator, used to modify a semi-automatic firearm so that it can fire multiple rounds automatically with a single pull of the trigger.
This bill
allows a trustee to terminate a trust
with a total value of less than $100,000 without requiring a court order. The trustee must notify any qualified beneficiaries or co-trustees.
HB 336 stipulates that an agent under a power of attorney does not have the authority to create, modify, or revoke a transfer-on-death deed unless they are explicitly granted the power to create or change beneficiary designations by law.
The bill permits any locality to include individuals in its group life, accident, and health insurance programs if those individuals are eligible for coverage under the existing laws governing private group accident and sickness insurance policies.
This bill
permits the governing body of a locality
to authorize its treasurer or other designated official to enter into installment agreements of up to 72 months for taxpayers who owe omitted taxes.
Recognizing disparities in local communities, Dr. Jones ran for City Council of Richmond, ultimately being elected in 2015 and serving as Council President. His commitment to equity and opportunity has been a driving force in his public service as he led the fight to remove Richmond’s Confederate monuments.
Delegate Jones has garnered a reputation of fighting for the streets. Black, White or Brown, Mike has sought to amplify the voices of those that are too often overlooked. In a part of the City that has been left out of so many conversations, Mike has a way of matching problems with legislation. He has shown his ability to lead during tough times by chairing the Council's Finance Committee, calling for more fiscal responsibility. He is willing to say what so many are afraid to say in a tone of empathy and compassion. Mike tries to educate and inform while others might seek to alienate.
Delegate Jones led the fight to gain local control of the Confederate Monuments in the City of Richmond. Standing alone he endured back lash and death threats. That did not stop him. He is leading the charge for more accountability with Law Enforcement seeking to move to a true form of Public Safety.
